2009: Layton started all 19 games as a freshman in 2009. She tied for the team lead with four assists, and attempted six shots on the year. She assisted the game-winner in Idaho’s 3-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sep. 13, then sent in a cross that set up the game-winner against Boise State on Oct. 18. While her play as an outside back was crucial to the Vandal defense holding opponents to the second-fewest shots (251) and third-fewest goals (24) in school history, she was also a key offensive component, as she attempted most of Idaho’s 86 corner kicks on the year.

High School/Club: Layton was a two-sport athlete for the Mead High School Panthers, which she led to three-straight Greater Spokane League titles and three-straight District 6 titles from 2006-08. She is a two-time first-team all-GSL honoree, as well as the GSL’s 2008 Defensive MVP and a 2008 Washington first-team all-state selection after leading Mead to a third-place finish at the state tournament. She played for the Spokane Shadow club team for eight years, including the last five as team captain. She helped the team earn the 2007 U.S. Club Soccer national title and twice led the team to state semi-final appearances. She was also a member of the Super Y League Northwest Divisional Select ODP team from 2005-07 and was a Super Y ODP National Camp invitee.
